Configuring pages
Before you get right to designing there are some basic settings to think of, like layout format, page size background color and more.
The first and the most important thing is to decide which layout you want to use. You can either use long reads, which are perfect for articles of any kind and represent the web look in the best way we can think of, or you can choose the slide layout which comes in handy for presentations.
In general we recommend to stick to one layout option and not mix these two within one work – users might get confused while switching between the two formats.
Per default the page size is set as a slide layout. In the following screenshot you see the difference of how these two formats are displayed in the editor: on the left side you have a slide layout and on the right side a long read. Besides page length you can differentiate them by their look: a long read’s page seems to be cropped at it’s end whereas the page of a slide layout is not.
Now let’s have a look at the other settings, like:
- Fit Height to Content: You can set the page length as high as you wish. It can occur that after you've finished there's too much space left at the end. With clicking "Fit Height to Content" the page length adjusts itself to the last item in your page.
- Page behavior: If a page is dimensioned like a slide but it is proposed to behave like a long read then tick the checkbox "Always scroll vertically". In addition you can fix the page width, this means that no matter how big the size of your browser is, the site stops growing proportionally after having reached the Pixels you have set in the editor.
You have the possibility to style the background of your layout too: you can either set a background color or use an image as background.
Choose “Image” from the dropdown, then drag and drop image from the asset manager or desktop into the empty label.
